Catch 50 pound Salmon

Salmon 01

The Sacramento River enjoys the largest run of King Salmon on the West Coast. The Chinook Salmon is the "King" of all Salmon species. The unbelievable strength of these fish will leave your arms aching. Catch these King Salmon back trolling Flatfish with a sardine wrap or back bouncing roe. The take down using a flatfish is unmistakable, the bite using roe is more subtle. The fight is the same--strong and powerful! We use Lamiglas 7'0" and 7'6" rods with a soft tip and a strong backbone with top quality spinning reels. These fish average 12 - 25 pounds with a lot of 30 pound fish caught. 50 pound salmon are caught every year with the state record of 88 pounds being caught in the Sacramento River. Salmon season kicks off in July with the beginning of the fall run that peaks in September and continues through mid November. The biggest and brightest fish of the year are caught in November and December with the arrival of the under-publicized late-fall run.
